Wildlife Art Where Creativity Meets Natural Science

Stacy Lewis is a North Carolina–based wildlife artist whose work is driven by close observation and curiosity about the natural world. Working in acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media, she creates richly textured paintings inspired by animals both living and prehistoric.

Her work is grounded in strong draftsmanship developed during her early career as an animator and explores the remarkable adaptations of coloration, behavior, and senses that help animals navigate their worlds.

That exploration often begins with a small visual detail: the flash of structural color in a hummingbird's feathers, a pattern that helps an animal disappear into its surroundings, or the specialized anatomy behind a particular kind of movement. Following those details through research and observation becomes part of the artistic process.

Stacy also works as a science communicator, sharing her approach through live painting demonstrations and educational programs at museums and science centers. Recent events include programs at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and the Museum of Life and Science. She has also presented at the Schiele Museum of Natural History, the Virginia Museum of Natural History, and the North Carolina Zoo.

Through her artwork and demonstrations, Stacy encourages audiences to look closely, ask questions, and discover how much there is to see in the animals around us.
